About Me
Noreen Irwin - Counsellor and Psychotherapist M.I.A.C.P
I am a registered and fully accredited member of the Irish Association of Counselling Psychotherapy (IACP) - the largest national body of registered practitioners in Ireland and I adhere to their Professional Code of Ethics and Practices to operate from the highest standards of integrity, confidentiality and ethical behaviour. I hold a BSc. (Hons) degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy as well as being certified in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). Having received various training in mind-body connection including Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), I have come to understand more fully how the experience of trauma and emotions are held within the body. This has become integral to how I practice.
I work with clients who have experienced a wide ranges of issues, such as anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, addiction, loss and grief. I have a particular interest in anxiety disorders, namely panic attacks, obsessive compulsive disorder, social anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder and phobias.
I recognise that there are many differences as well as similarities in the needs of people who seek out therapy assistance. I am committed to being as open as possible, doing away with discrimination or privilege in my work and I welcome a diverse range of people from the community.

My Background
As a therapist, I believe one of my strengths is that this is my second career. I believe that a person is a culmination of their past experiences and I've been fortunate enough to work in several different work settings over a period of twenty years, which has provided me with great insight into the various difficulties and pressures an individual can experience in the working world.
As an adjunct to my work, my experience of raising a child with Autism has both challenged and strengthened me. I work with families and individuals who have experienced similar challenges. Along with a fellow parent we established 'Parent2Parent' a support group for parents of children with special needs'. Together with the help and support of Family Carers Ireland and other parents, we establish the Kilkenny Arch Club - a social club for children with special needs.
My earlier career was spent working in the private sector predominantly in the area of human resources and general management both in the UK and in the USA. My previous role in the corporate world was as General Manager of a large subsidiary company, part of a blue chip organisation. During my eleven years in that organisation, the business went through various periods of significant growth primarily due to expansion which occurred both organically and through acquisitions.
If you feel my past and present experience could benefit both you as an individual or in providing psycho-educational talks or Employee Assisted Programme services to your organisation please feel free to contact me to discuss your needs.
