Is counselling right for you?
We all have different levels of distress and/or crisis. Counselling is a way of exploring these areas of your life and working towards solutions. You might be experiencing :-
- Anxiety, stress or depression
- Loss or bereavement
- Stuck in a rut, doubting what life has to offer you
- The aftermath of a trauma
- Poor physical or mental health
- Addiction issues such as alcohol, gambling or drugs
- Abuse - either in childhood or as an adult
- Low self-esteem or other issues causing you distress
Who do I see?
- Individuals
- Couples
- Groups
How can I help you?
My style of counselling is to listen to you, support you and through the therapeutic process, to help you to gain insight and new perspectives to your problems or issues.
Counselling will be an opportunity for you to share concerns that you may find difficult to voice elsewhere. It will be a time to explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences. You will gain clarity to allow you to move forward, change what is possible to change, and recognise that which cannot be changed. You can agree the solutions that work for you or move towards acceptance of your situation.
I believe the most important part of therapy is to form a trusting, empathic relationship between the client and therapist. I will provide you with a safe space where you can feel valued and respected, and where you can talk confidentially about the reasons which have brought you to counselling or other difficulties you may have in your life.
Since completing my professional training, I have worked in a HSE funded counselling service providing counselling support to survivors of abuse and trauma. I also provide psycho-educational talks and EAP supports to commercial or public sector settings such as the HSE, public libraries and schools. In addition to my private practice, I work out of a GP medical centre in Kilkenny providing therapy to their patients on a wide range of difficulties.
I receive regular supervision of my work in line with the standards set down by the Irish Association of Counselling Psychotherapy, and I am committed to continued professional development.
In recent years, there have been significant advances in understanding the relationship between the mind and the body, the emotional parts of the brain and how this impact our overall well being. As an integrative therapist, I am committed to integrating new evidence based ways of working into my practice.

Want to know more?
Nothing is too small or insignificant to talk about. Whatever is troubling you, please feel free to give me a call for an informal chat to determine whether or not therapy might be of help. If you wish, you can book a one off appointment to see how you find the experience and if you feel comfortably to continue working together.
The number of sessions that clients find useful differs from person to person but there is no obligation beyond our initial meeting. Some people find significant relief from what is troubling them after a few sessions, and others continue with therapy for several weeks or months.
